Walmart recalls apple juice due to high arsenic levels that was distributed in 25 states.

Higher incidence of cancer has been linked to regular exposure to inorganic arsenic.

Due to high levels of arsenic, Walmart and a Dutch manufacturer are voluntarily recalling apple juice marketed under the Walmart “Great Value” brand.

The recalled items were distributed throughout the southern and east coast states of the United States, as well as in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, according to a notice that was updated on the Food and Drug Administration’s website on Friday. They were offered in 6-pack plastic bottles and came in 8-ounce quantities.

According to the notification, the arsenic levels, at around 13 parts per billion (ppb), are somewhat higher than the 10 ppb that the FDA considers safe for ingestion. The recall was classified by the EPA as Class II, which means that while there is a slight chance of major adverse health effects, it may have transient or “medically reversible” effects.

“Our customers’ health and safety are our first priority,” a Walmart representative named Molly Blakeman stated in a statement. “We are collaborating with the supplier to conduct an investigation and have removed this product from our affected stores.”

Refresco said that it was voluntarily recalling some shipments of its apple juice due to inorganic arsenic levels that were “slightly above” the FDA’s recommendation. It declared that it had not heard of any complaints or health issues.

“The safety of consumers and the satisfaction of our customers are our top priorities,” the business stated. “We are working diligently to address the situation.”

The Food and Drug Administration states that tainted drinking water is typically the source of inorganic arsenic. Regular exposure to or intake of inorganic arsenic can lead to cancer and birth abnormalities, unlike naturally occurring arsenic, which is present in most places at low amounts.
