Tyler Blevins, a well-known video game broadcaster who goes by Ninja to his millions of online admirers, said on Tuesday that he had been given a skin cancer diagnosis.
The most popular person on Twitch, 32-year-old Tyler Blevins, stated in a post on X that he is “still in a bit of shock” over the news, which he found out during his annual skin/mole check session with his dermatologist.
“There was a mole on the bottom of my foot that they wanted to remove just to be careful,” he wrote at the time. “It came back as melanoma, but they are optimistic that we caught it in the early stages.”
According to him, there was another dark spot next to the mole that has been biopsied. The medical professionals “removed a larger area around the melanoma with the hopes that under the microscope they will see clear non-melanoma edges and we will know we got it.”
He advised his disciples to get skin examinations.
“I’m grateful to have hope in finding this early, but please take this as a PSA to get skin checkups,” he said.
A request for response from Blevins’ agent was not immediately answered.
Blevins is one of the most well-known figures in esports and gaming, having been a streamer for almost ten years. He plays games like Fortnite on Twitch, where he has 19 million followers.
He soon became so connected with Fortnite that the game’s creator, Epic Games, offered a Ninja “skin” that users could buy and use to make them resemble Blevins while playing the game.
His appeal extends beyond the world of video games; in 2019, he made an appearance on the well-liked reality competition show “The Masked Singer.”
When Blevins departed Twitch in 2019 to join Microsoft’s short-lived Mixer broadcasting service, it made headlines. However, once Mixer closed down in 2020, he went back to Twitch.
