The news is made in advance of the fall season and at a time when the majority of the nation has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases this summer due to highly infectious new strains.
In late September, free Covid-19 testing will be accessible again, the Biden administration declared on Friday.
At a briefing on the impending respiratory virus season on Friday, Dawn O’Connell, the assistant secretary for preparation and response at the Department of Health and Human Services, stated, “These tests will help families and their loved ones stay safe this fall and winter.”

Four complimentary Covid tests will be mailed out as part of the campaign. Those interested in taking the exams can register at Covidtests.gov when the time comes.
More than 900 million tests have been sent to American homes since the home delivery program began in 2021, according to O’Connell. Additionally, 900 million at-home tests have been given by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response through community-based access points.

“So remember to visit Covidtests.gov to order your free tests as you all get ready for travel, family get-togethers, and the 2024 holiday season,” she stated.
It occurs at a time when the majority of the nation has seen an increase in Covid rates this summer due to highly infectious new varieties. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of patients testing positive for COVID continues to climb, and since mid-May, the number of COVID-related ER visits has increased. According to CDC statistics as of Thursday, the amount of Covid virus activity in wastewater was “very high.”
The FDA just authorized new Covid vaccinations from Pfizer and Moderna on Thursday. The vaccines have been upgraded to better match the virus strains that are currently in circulation.
