Apple and Maryland retail employees have agreed to their first-ever union contract.

The Towson, Maryland, business employs around 85 people, and the deal needs to be accepted by all of them.

A tentative collective bargaining agreement has been negotiated between Apple and the nation’s first unionized corporate store.

The workers at a Maryland retail location are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers’ Coalition of Organized Retail Employees, which made an announcement on Friday night that it had reached a three-year agreement with the company that will see an average 10% pay increase as well as other benefits for staff members.

About 85 workers at the business, which is situated in the Towson area of Baltimore, must ratify the arrangement. August 6 is the day of the voting.

The union’s bargaining committee released a statement saying, “By reaching a tentative agreement with Apple, we are giving our members a voice in their futures and a strong first step toward further gains.” “We can build on this success store after store if we work together.”

Apple did not answer a request for comment right away.

The agreement was reached after retail employees decided to go on strike in May after more than a year of negotiations with management had produced “satisfactory outcomes.”

There are just two unionized Apple locations nationwide, the one in Maryland. A few months before workers at a second Apple facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, joined with the Communications Workers of America, the employees there cast ballots in support of the union in June 2022. The tech business has not awarded a contract to the second outlet.

In recent years, unions have won election victories that have made headlines, such as at an Amazon warehouse in New York City, a Chipotle restaurant in Michigan, and hundreds of Starbucks locations nationwide. However, a large number of them lack contracts.
