Portland, Oregon On Thursday afternoon, three individuals were shot at a Salem, Oregon, park; one of the victims has passed away, according to the police.
A press statement from the Salem Police Department states that at around 1:45 p.m., officers were sent to the scene of a reported gunshot close to Bush’s Pasture Park.
Authorities reported finding three men shot; one of them had passed away.
A local hospital was the destination of the two other individuals, who were deemed to be minors. At first, it was unclear what their ailments were.
No information about the deceased’s identity or age has been made public.
The Statesman Journal said that the hospital, along with South Salem High School and other nearby schools, went into lockdown.
“I want to be clear: at no time was there an active shooter on our school campus,” South Salem Principal Tara Romina stated in an email addressed to families.
Part of the park remained blocked while police officers investigated and looked for a suspect.
Bush’s Pasture Park, near downtown, features walking and jogging pathways, woodland areas, and open meadows, as well as gardens, playgrounds, and ball fields, according to its website. The park is home to a museum, an art gallery, and an official Soap Box Derby track.
