Around 1:45 p.m., Jonte Davis, 33, lost his life in the shooting. Warren police reported on Saturday.
Over the weekend, an Ohio mail carrier was fatally shot in his postal van in what authorities suspect to have been a deliberate assault.
According to Warren police, Jonte Davis, 33, was hurt “while inside his U.S. postal van by a suspect in another vehicle,” they said on Facebook on Sunday.
Authorities said they were called to a complaint of gunfire in the northeast Ohio city of Warren around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday in the 600 block of Olive Avenue NE.
Davis was given life-saving treatment by police and emergency medical workers, but he passed away at Trumbull Regional Medical Center from his wounds, according to the police.
Authorities reported that a suspect car was discovered in a driveway of a house on Maryland Avenue NE a few hours after they had arrived at the site of the shooting. According to the police, a search warrant was issued for the car and the residence.
On Monday afternoon, it was unable to get in contact with any Warren police representative to inquire about the status of the investigation.
The police statement states that “multiple individuals” have been interrogated at the police station.
Police did note, however, that “no one is in custody for this targeted attack at this time.” At this point, it is thought that the suspect(s) and the victim were acquainted.
According to authorities, the Postal Service and the FBI are supporting the investigation. It was not possible to get in touch with anybody at the FBI’s Cleveland office right away for comment.
